Quedlinburg, Germany Hotel am Br?hl is an exceptionally charming inn located in one of Germany's picture-perfect, fairytale villages. The Russians confiscated the Schmidts' house after Wold War II. But after reunification, Reinhard Schmidt reclaimed the property. He and his talented wife, Ursula, converted the original 1920?s stucco home into a delightful hotel, and the connecting warehouse into an outstanding restaurant that absolutely oozes cozy charm. When the adjacent 350-year-old timbered farmhouse became available, the Schmidts bought it and expanded their flourishing business. The original house the warehouse and the old farm enclose an enhancing courtyard where a timbered ivy-covered wall, colorful flower gardens, potted plants and a cobblestoned floor create a romantic ambiance. Inside you enter into a spacious, uncluttered room that exudes a gentle, mellow glow. Natural light streams through arched windows, gently highlighting walls of exposed honey-toned stone. Beautifully upholstered, light-wood furniture, soft lighting, a few antiques, and large bouquets of fresh flowers complete the picture of quiet luxury. This light, airy charm continues in the guestrooms, each of which has been lovingly decorated by Frau Schmidt. The favorite guestrooms are the non-smoking one in the timbered farmhouse which have more of an informal, country flair. Throughout the hotel there are paintings and stenciling done by the Schmdts?s two talented daughters.
